Great Local Places to Eat.

Local Eateries

Your Menu of Truly Fabulous Local Places to Eat Out.

They say you ‘eat with your eyes’ and I certainly do so it’s not just the food that has to look (and taste) exceptional but the surroundings too.  All the places listed below have lovely atmospheres, fab food, inspirational interiors and gorgeous gardens so they fit the bill perfectly and all, are just that little bit special.  Enjoy!

Don’t Fancy Driving?

You may be interested to know that there is a fabulous on-demand bus service run by the local council who, for £3 p/p per journey will pick you up and drop you within a 6 miles radius of the town.  Just download the Go-Too app and book your bus/taxi!  Perfect if you want to head out into the countryside for lunch and fancy a glass or two or wine.   Visit www.go-too.co.uk for more information.

Fine Dining

Private Dining

Within your accommodation.

We have access to some of the finest chefs in Cheshire. For groups of four or more staying at The Bathhouse, why not indulge in the luxury of a private chef? Our spacious, open-plan dining area offers a stunning setting for your meal, or you can enjoy alfresco dining in our covered outdoor dining space. Enjoy time talking to your private chef about exactly what you’d like them to cook and save money on restaurant priced wines by bringing your own.

Dockett 33

Fine dining meets sleepy market town!  Forget pub food – we are talking exceptional culinary skills, wordly wines and just wait until you try their tasting menu with a specially selected wine to accompany every course!  This really is the fine dining dream,  and what’s more, they can also offer a private dining experience for up to 20 guests so if you are staying at the barns or The Bathhouse as part of a group it’s really worth considering.

Wild Shropshire

Exceptional, sustainable gastronomy showcasing the very best food producers of the local area.

The Walrus

Shrewsbury (but you can get there in a short, very pretty train ride from Nantwich (Cheshire Boutique Bathhouse) or Wrenbury (Cheshire Boutique Barns)

(Only Online Reservations)

Just a 20-minute direct, scenic train ride from Nantwich into the heart of the stunning town of Shrewsbury and you’ll find this outstanding Michelin restaurant. The food and service are exceptional, and their flights of wine are the best you’ll ever taste! Highly recommended – and then just hop on the train home, no taxi required! A fabulous afternoon or evening out!

Casual Evening Meals Near the Barns

The Bhurtepore inn

The Bhurtpore Inn is in the next village over from the barns – so just a 5 minute drive, past wrenbury train station) and their food is exceptional! Not only do they have a fabulous coffee shop serving some of the best breakfasts around (open from 10am) but they are also a pub and have inherited the curry recipes that the previous owners had spent many years perfecting! Definitely worth a visit!

The Nags Head at Haughton

Just a short drive outside of Nantwich is this superb, very pretty, pub.  So many places boast about using local food these days but these guys (who also own the food lovers mecca, Altrincham Food Market) literally grow their own produce in their gardens!  A superb atmosphere, stunning interiors, great wines and consistently great food.

The Cholmondeley Arms

Our personal favourite local but it seems the Telegraph agree by voting it one of the top 10 best rural pubs in Britain!  With multiple awards for being one of the best rural pubs in the UK, also with over 500 gins it won ‘Gin Pub of 2020’ – the accolades go on.  It’s an old, converted school, with open fires, beautiful surroundings, candle lit tables, fab food and over 366 different gins.  They do a gin-tastings at the bar most Saturday afternoons – You’ll definitely be needing that taxi! They have lots of outdoor tables too for alfresco dining!

The Swan at Marbury

A beautifully located pub overlooking the Marbury big mere that serves excellent food!   Not long re-opened and this time in the very capable hands of Jerry Brunningham of The Brunningham Price chain so you can expect only the highest standards of food, wine, beers, service and of course, stunning interiors.  Situated on the edge of Marbury big mere there are beautiful walks from the pub too.  If you stay across a weekend, they do excellent Sunday lunches!

The Black Bear

Run by the same people as The Swan at Marbury, The Black Bear is a stunning, half-timbered, 17th-century pub just across the road from the church with cosy bar and beer garden and consistently great hearty, traditional British food.

The Dysert Arms

A beautiful, cosy 19th-century pub in an equally beautiful village (where ITV’s Homefires was filmed) with oak beams, log fires, bookcases, leafy, sunny gardens and a great British menu.

The Coombermere Arms

Think reclaimed interiors, large sunny windows, real fires, wood panelled cosy corners and a lovely beer garden – all serving delicious pub grub.

The Pheasant Inn

Walkers, eat your heart out! Open fires, great food and some of the best views in Cheshire, plus breath taking walks through the surrounding National Trust countryside from their doorstep.  A top recommendation for lunch (particularly in the winter when it gets dark in the evenings) so you can enjoy the stunning views as far as Wales and Liverpool!  Also lovely on a sunny evening.

Etzios

This very unassuming little high street restaurant (think gingham checked table cloths and red wine in carafes) has food so good it usually only takes bookings 3 months in advance so book early!

Little Tap

Craft beers, small plates of totally delicious foods all served in the perfect ambience of rustic décor and gentle lighting and a constant buzz of people just having a lovely, relaxing time.  Perfect for a quick drink, snack or a full-on meal.

The Little Tapa

Independent Tapas wine bar in the heart of Audlem, another picturesque Cheshire village. Small plates cooked to order. Local produce & Gins. Five-minute walk from Shropshire Union Canal. Phone bookings recommended, walkins accommodated at the bar- if not a table. And dog friendly!

The Yew Tree Bunbury

The Yew Tree Inn is a rather handsome village pub, built by The Earl of Crewe in the 19th century. Inside you’ll see that it has open fires, old beams and great quirky décor.  The locals adore it – say no more!

The Coast Restaurant and Bar

If you fancy putting some glad rags on and having a really lovely meal out but in a relaxed setting this is a great place to head to.  Absolutely superb food in a beautiful, modern, funky interior!

Panama Hatty’s Spurstow

A slightly American dining experience where you can choose something different. The menu comprises of burgers, steaks, nachos, wraps and sizzling fajitas. Delicious!
